The Lord's Supper
The Lord's supper or communion is one of only two church ordinances that the Bible believing Christian has in this dispensation.
The other being 'full immersion baptism'.
None of these will even remotely save you. You could be baptised a thousand times in the river Jordan or drink a vineyard of grapes or eat a baker's dozen of bread, but it won't get you into heaven unless you have the Lord Jesus as your personal Saviour. 1Corinthians 15:2-4 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
: And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scripture
All other traditions that the 'so called' Christian religious world participate in are for their own self godliness and righteousness. Matthew 23:5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
The church hierarchy ( the ones whom the TV world seem always to interview when a crisis rears its head ) are like the Sadducees and the Pharisees in their approach, their doctrines come from what the world wants to hear ( like politicians ) and not from what the Bible says. They are not Biblical, but support a system that tries to keep it's followers in check with them being above the followers.
(Rev 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
For instance ; some of their practices are the mass, infant baptism, holy fairs, Christmass, easter bunnies, mens & womens guilds, harvest gatherings, coffee mornings etc. Someeven have weekly coffee mornings and monthly Bible studies. Priorities are all wrong.
Oh! did I spell 'christmass wrong?
Did I emphasize the “mass” too boldly?
While some are good traditions ( harvest gatherings) , they so however promote the 'by works' scenario that has so gripped this country and allowed Free Masonry and the like, to take a grip and make the Lord's death on the Cross of Calvary futile!
While others like the Mass, Infant baptism... are nothing but Satanic and have no Biblical basis whatsoever!
It is not my intentions to offend those who are caught up in these traditions, but I must stress these matters from a Biblical perspective!
NOW TO THE STUDY
Who can take the Lord's Supper?
Why would you not take the Lord’s supper?
As oft as we do it!
How often is ‘as oft’?
Grape or Wine?
Bread Leavened or Unleavened?
The Lord's Supper is open for anyone who is a 'Born again, blood bought, know for sure they are going to heaven Christian. ( Acts 26:22-29)
1Corinthians 10:15-17 I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.
When we are saved that very moment we believe, we become members of one body in Christ (Romans 12:4; 1Cor 6:15; 12:12,14,20)
So in 1Cor 10:17 the whole body of Christ are partakers of that bread. As I have mentioned earlier, while full immersion baptism is one of the ordinances of the 'Body of Christ', it is not prerequisite to being saved nor is it a prerequisite to being able to take the Lord's supper. Is that clear?
when you are saved you become part of the 'Body of Christ' and as part of that "body" you are able to take 'Communion'.
Why would you not take the Lord's Supper?
This is a very important question when it comes up for the saved person, about Communion. It makes no difference to the unsaved of the do's and don'ts of Communion, their attitude of the ordinance is ' it doesn't matter', but of course the unsaved are destined for hell anyway!
The saved blood bought saint has warnings in the Bible regarding 'not taking' the Lord's Supper in an 'unworthy manner' (1 Cor 11:27-30; 10:20-22; Psalm 16:4-5)
Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. ( 1 Cor 11:27-30 )
This is the reason why we should be very solemn and careful when we take the Lord's Supper. It is not a thing that should be taken lightly that it becomes a habit taking it in a weekly basis. This is apt to form tradition and as our hearts are evil we are more likely to fall into sin at least once in a while.
As oft as we do it!
This brings us to 1 (Cor 11:26.) We are 'warned' to examine ourselves before we take communion, because many become sick and sleep (die) (1Cor 11:30)
If this is the consequence of doing it wrong, why would we want to do this weekly? Is it not putting a stumbling block in front of some people in the local congregation? If the elder does not go through the passages and warn the congregation about the consequences, then woe! unto that person! They shall have to give account of themselves before the Lord.
When you examine yourself and find anything there that's not right, take it before the Lord first (1John 1:9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If it's in connection with a brother or sister in Christ see (Matthew 5:23-24) Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
That is a spiritual lesson for us Christians today not a doctrinal one. How many times should we forgive our brother or sister (M't:18:22: Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
How often is as oft?
Lets look into the scriptures and find out 'How often is'!
The 'Passover' happens once a year (Ex12:14 And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.), Jesus and his disciples went to the upper room, remember it? (Matthew 26:18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.). The Lord made the 'New Testament' of his blood at that particular time (Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.; Mark 14:24). We are told in Exodus 30:10 that the sin offering was once a year. (And Aaron shall make an atonement upon the horns of it once in a year with the blood of the sin offering of atonements: once in the year shall he make atonement upon it throughout your generations: it is most holy unto the LORD.) Christ was our sin offering! He became sin for us! We have to take it in remembrance of HIM (Hebrews 9:7,13,14; 13:12; 1Peter 1:2,19; 1John 1:7: Rev 1:5 Hebrews 9:14-17)
The New Testament is pictured with the Old Testament
(Matthew 26:28; Hebrews 9:14-22 How much more shall the blood of
Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God,
purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
I am not saying that remembering the Lord’s Supper more than once a year is wrong! No! not at all!
I’m just saying to be careful that you do it in a ‘worthy manner’
The Body - Unleavened Bread
The Old Testament commanded during the ‘Passover’ to rid themselves of any leavened bread. The leaven is a representation of sin.
Ex:12:20: Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread
1Co:5:6: Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven
leaveneth the whole lump?
Ga:5:9: A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.
M'r:8:15: And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.
Beware of the warnings in scripture, don't use leavened bread
Heb:10:10: By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
The offering made by Jesus was on the Cross of Calvary, not some weekly ritual at the local Baal worshipping Society (mass). IT WILL NOT GET YOU INTO HEAVEN!!!
Tarry one for another!
According to the Scriptures, we are to wait for one another. We are not there for a feast and guzzle down the wine, and stuff the bread into our mouths. But in a like manner to sup and take bread at the same time.
1Co:11:20: When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper.
1Co:11:21: For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.
1Co:11:22: What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.
So, we wait.
1Co:11:33: Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.
1Co:11:34: And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.
So if you are reading this and doing it different from the scriptures, TARRY!!
1Co:11:25: After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
Now, UNLIKE the Voodoo rituals, this BLOOD we are to drink is not the ‘life substance!
On the contrary! We are FORBIDDEN to drink blood.
It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood. Leviticus 3:17
Le:7:27: Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people.
So what is in the cup we are to drink?
There are controversies as to whether it is ‘fermented alcoholic wine’ OR ‘red grape juice’ pressed from grapes!
Why grape juice? The grape is described in the Bible as being the pure blood.
Ge:49:11 he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes:
See that thing?
The Lord says ‘he will not drink of the fruit of the vine until a later time.
M't:26:29: But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
The Lord drank grape juice (fruit of the vine), and quite simply that should be the end of the matter, fruit of the vine is described in Genesis by Joseph
Ge:40:9: And the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;
Ge:40:10: And in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and her blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:
Ge:40:11: And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.
Ge:40:12: And Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days:
Ge:40:13: Yet within three days shall Pharaoh lift up thine head, and restore thee unto thy place: and thou shalt deliver Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.
Ge:40:14: But think on me when it shall be well with thee, and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:
It is not fermented wine, and is not old, but ‘new’ wine.
The Lord drank ‘new wine’ M't:26:29: But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom. And in Isaiah 65:8 we have new wine described.
Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for my servants' sakes, that I may not destroy them all.
It is found in a ‘cluster’! Grapes that are in old times ‘trampled’ or from the winepress. There is no indication from any of the Scriptures that this ‘new wine’ is fermented! The grapes were not left to ferment and grow old and sour!
Can you really justify drinking ‘old fermented wine’ in remembrance of the ‘Holy Blood shed atonement made for us on Calvary’s cross?
No way hosey!
In Genesis 9:20-25 a whole race of people was cursed because of alcoholic ‘drunkness’ .
20 And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard:
:21: And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.
22: And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without.
23: And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father's nakedness.
24: And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him.
25: And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren.
The same in Genesis 19:31-36 which resulted in incest!
31: And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
Ge:19:32: Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.
Ge:19:33: And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
Ge:19:34: And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our Father.
Ge:19:35: And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose.
Ge:19:36: Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father.
The Lord commanded the ‘priest’ not to drink wine.
Le:10:8-11 And the LORD spake unto Aaron, saying,
9: Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:
10: And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean;
11: And that ye may teach the children of Israel all the statutes which the LORD hath spoken unto them by the hand of Moses.
And what are we called today, being a child of God?
We are called ‘priests’!
1Pe:2:5: Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
1Pe:2:6: Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
1Pe:2:7: Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
1Pe:2:8: And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
1Pe:2:9: But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
1Pe:2:10: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.
1Pe:2:11: Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;
1Pe:2:12: Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.
In the Old Testament, men and women are not to drink wine while in a vow of the Nazarite they were to separate themselves unto God
Nu:6:2: Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the LORD:
Nu:6:3: He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried.
Whereas, we are to separate ourselves from the world unto God
2Co:6:17: Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
2Co:6:18: And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
Ro:12:1: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Ro:12:2: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
The winebibbers are grossly erring drinking the fermented wine! Isaiah 28:7 But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.
If you have a church who is coming together in Communion, drinking fermented wine. I would seriously wonder who your rock was of that fountain!!!
De:32:31: For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.
To get the overall picture here we have
De:32:29: O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!
De:32:30: How should one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, except their Rock had sold them, and the LORD had shut them up?
De:32:31: For their rock is not as our Rock, even our enemies themselves being judges.
De:32:32: For their vine is of the vine of Sodom, and of the fields of Gomorrah: their grapes are grapes of gall, their clusters are bitter:
De:32:33: Their wine is the poison of dragons, and the cruel venom of asps.
May you receive a blessing from this material
John 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
