The scriptures speak of 1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: It is always refreshing to drink a cool glass of milk from time to time and get away from the meaty stuff. This small project is catered to help the Christian along the path of righteousness ( Prov 2:9), to wear the full armour of God, and to fight our enemies the world, the devil, and the flesh.
Ephesians 6:10-17 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
Sin may dwell in our body, but it need not have dominion over us. Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.
The way to victory is to live above sin.
There are seven basic positive actions to help lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us and run this race and to keep strong in the Lord. ( Heb 12:1)
Psalms 119:9 Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
1. To stay in the word of God is most vital for defence and attack. Without the word you are open to attacks of the Devil, world, and self. Your faith is under attack at all times from the enemies. Your defence is to feed your faith with the word of God. Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
God's word builds up the walls of defence for our bodies which are vulnerable to attack because of its weak state. We must be spiritually immune to the wiles of our three enemies. ( The world, the flesh and the devil) John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
God's word is our protection and to use it as a sharp sword. ( Heb 4:12) We cannot fight the good fight with a butter knife. It is better for them to be wounded with the sword here on earth than for them to burn in hell Proverbs 27:6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
Staying 'put ' in the fight helps us to be bold and to resist the wiles of the Devil, it declares to the world exactly where we stand. We are to be 'without compromise' or if you like an 'Antipas'. ( 'Anti' means 'against' and 'Pas' means ' everything'). We have to be at enmity with the world, not God. James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
The Book states how things are to be and THAT'S how it is going to be!
Keep in mind that the Bible will keep you from sin or sin will keep you from the Bible.
2. It isn't enough just to read the Bible. Take that promise and claim it. Claiming the promises in the Bible aids the build up of strength and faith in the believers spirit. Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
It keeps us from lusting or the coveting after worldly material things. 1 Corinthians 10:13 Is a promise - There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Knowing that there is a prize that one can achieve, always focus the attention of the participant ( Philippians 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.) So hold onto a good promise from the God's word and claim it!
Not all promises are valid for you, so don't give up easily; the Lord will let you know when to claim some new ones. You can't live above sin without Bible reading nor can you live above sin without 'Promise Claiming' .
Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
2 Corinthians 4:6-7 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
3. Romans 6:11 Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Reckoning your body dead to this world is best thing to do to fight self. You might ask why - Because a dead man CANNOT sin. Your body lusts and yearns the easy life. You have to tell the flesh that it is dead, it may not believe that and raise Cain against the reckoning. The slothful exuberant life of luxury that the world offers through the wiles of the Devil is but temporary and in reality very few achieve this. Christians who are serving the world find themselves to be unhappy people. In our unregenerate life ( before salvation ) the things that send us to hell is 'unbelief'; and after salvation the things which keep you messed up with sin is 'unbelief'. TELL THE FLESH IT IS DEAD!
Romans 7:2-4 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.
Reckoning your body dead can be difficult to do; but putting in practice the other six positive actions will make it easier to overcome. The more you be a 'doer' of God's word, the more you will grow in the grace of our Lord, thus the closer you will be to God.
4. Romans 12:12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
Be instant in prayer, this is not your daily talk with God in the morning, noon, and night. Or even the devotional time with the family or church. Its not even the prayer time or Bible reading together with your wife. This prayer is anytime, anywhere, anyplace when the attack comes, whither it be in the middle of the shopping centre, at the work place or even at the sports venue or in the home. Nehemiah is a good example of this. Nehemiah 2:4 Then the king said unto me, For what dost thou make request? So I prayed to the God of heaven. And I said unto the king,
5. Hebrews 10:18-19 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
Pleading the blood helps the soul know what was done for it on the cross of Calvary. It puts a perspective of the shed blood of Christ in the situation. You should use it for the defence when reckoning your body dead and for the attack when coming up against the foe in instant prayer. Also, there will be times when temptation will be too strong, you may then have to 'plead the blood'. The Devil or the world tries to remind you of past sins, so this is the time to plead the blood to purge your conscious from these 'accusing sins'. Revelation 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Colossians 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Colossians 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
6. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Thanks giving is right and proper. It gives us our place in the pecking order that we don't become too big for our breeches. It reminds us where we came from and discourages us from having a "holier than thou" attitude. There is always something to give thanks about. Whether it be health, financial, poverty, marital situation, unemployment... there is always someone far worse off than you are!
When there isn't any 'thanksgiving to God taking place in a Christians life then they are apt to fail and sin. Apostasy begins when there is no thanksgiving. Romans 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
7. Staying fresh, fruitful and faithful.
Soul winning feeds the desire of the spirit to please God. When we are not trying to win souls it gives our enemies the edge to accuse us and taunt us that our salvation is not real. We become disillusioned with ourselves and start doubting our salvation. So trying to win souls by spreading the gospel ( 1 Corinthians 15:3,4) is a building of security to us and a deadly sword to our enemies.
